Epithets

Sports Fanatic
I absolutely love sports, from basketball to golf to ping-pong.  I never miss a BYU football, basketball, or Utah Jazz game.  The only two channels that I know on my apartment TV are ESPN and TNT because those are the ones that show NBA games.

Family Focused
My favorite way to spend time is with my family.  I am the oldest of five siblings, and my four younger brothers and sisters are my best friends.  We love to play sports together (sometimes those we've made up ourselves), have Mario Kart tournaments on the Wii, and joke around together.

Missionary
I served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Trujillo, Perú from November 2015-November 2017.  At the same time, the rest of my family was in Brazil while my dad presided over the Brazil Curitiba mission, which assignment ended in June 2019.  I have worked at the Missionary Training Center for the last two years, training both new missionaries and teachers.  I love missionary work!

Disciple
I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  I believe in Jesus Christ--that He lives and continues to be involved in our lives each day, both individually and through His Church.  I am so thankful for His teachings and hope to be a little bit more like Him each day.

  1. Sounds like we have a lot in common! I love sports as well and this whole pandemic has been killer for me because of the extreme lack of sports! I'm a huge cougar fan and will be forever! Not so pumped about the Jazz though. I'm also the oldest kid in my family and we also have a ton of fun together. My dad has never been a mission president though which is super awesome!

  2. Reading your blog made me slightly embarrassed that I didn't have my family as one of my epithets! Family is the most important. It was fun reading your blog as it relates so much to my life as well.

  3. That's really cool that your family presided over the Curitiba mission! I have a lot of friends who served during that time. I served in the mission just north of it, in Santos Sao Paulo. Even though portuguese is much better than spanish, I hope you enjoyed your time in Peru!

  4. I loved hearing about your family! Mario Kart is a sacred tradition at my house too, haha. I'm not a huge sports fan but I was so sad about March Madness being cancelled this year. My basketball fan comes out hard during March! Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait until next year. I'm also impressed by your passion for missionary work! I got back from my mission in 2019 and it was the best!

Similarities Between Three Major Greek Plagues and the COVID-19 Pandemic

Similarities Between Three Major Greek Plagues and the COVID-19 Pandemic The word “pandemic” is of Greek origin and literally meant “all people” (“pan” meaning “all” and “demos” meaning “people”).  That is a fitting etymological origin for a word that has, in just a couple of months, seemingly found its way into the vocabulary of “all people” as the new coronavirus and accompanying COVID-19 disease sweep the earth.  However, the word isn’t the only thing that ancient Greece has to contribute to the present conversation about the coronavirus.  At least three major plagues are associated with Greek history and tradition--one from the beginning of Homer’s Iliad , one from Sophocles’s tragedy Oedipus Rex , and the Plague of Athens described in Thucydides’s Histories of the Peloponnesian War .  Much can be learned from comparing the ancient plagues and the modern coronavirus.  In fact, these three plagues from Greek history had remarkably similar effects on the...
